I’m still stunned from something I recently heard. When an employer tells people not to talk to people who have left an organization, it’s a gigantic red flag. Are we not grown? The moment an employer tries to dictate who I speak to, that would be the last time they saw me.
@VictoriaTheTech Tangentially, this is part of this week's #AVintheAM discussion happening right now. When an org.'s culture includes secrecy/obfuscation, it's not good. BTW, #SCOTUS has been very clear: no employer can restrict whom u talk to nor what u talk about (inc. salary/perqs.).
@Vegas_AV_Ace @VictoriaTheTech Agreed. I think it's also a sign that the org leadership lacks confidence in its own worth. Legal issues are one thing, but if you're afraid of your employees networking, you need to take a hard look at what you are offering your people to retain them. #AVInTheAM
@code_kate @Vegas_AV_Ace I really like this framing! And I completely agree. When one person leaves an employer, it’s important to examine their “why.” If SEVERAL leave and if they attempt to restrict networking/communication, there’s larger issues at hand: power, control, and fear. #AVinTheAM
@VictoriaTheTech @code_kate @Vegas_AV_Ace Most people don’t leave a bad job. They leave a bad boss. A good leader wants their team to achieve their best. If they have reached their limit with your team a good leader will not hold them back but give them tailwind move forward. #AVintheAM
