Got tennis elbow? Just ignore it and carry on! “about 90% of people with untreated tennis elbow achieve resolution at 1 year - We recommend that clinicians inform those who are frustrated with persisting symptoms that this is not a cause for apprehension” pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34874323/
@AdamMeakins I understand you’re being deliberately facetious here to provoke debate but we all know that there is more to it than that and telling your pt to ‘ignore it and carry’ on just doesn’t cut it
@AdamMeakins ...unless there is a high level early efficacious option 'Because of the high likelihood of spontaneous recovery, any active intervention needs to be justified by high levels of early efficacy and little or no risk to outperform watchful waiting.'
@AdamMeakins Present a reasonable paper with perfectly acceptable advice on SoMEtHiNg ThAt gEtS BeTTeR aNyWaY Twitter physios yeah but no but yeah but what about strapping and shockwave and and and
@AdamMeakins Having had it, I can honestly say I couldn’t have worked or waited a year for it to settle! Single steroid injection sorted me out, controversial I know….
@AdamMeakins Interesting. Many parallels to the challenges of AKP treatment with the exception that AKP typically doesn’t resolve untreated.
@AdamMeakins I had (probable) tennis elbow, just carried on, adapted as little as I could, pain not that impactful in relation to other issues, solved in 9 months, not been a problem since (18 months+). Didn’t see anyone so no bad advice 😂
@AdamMeakins We are doing this aswell, assesment, timeline and advice. "Take our information paper". And some personalitys I'll have telephone checkups. Because I think we're treating a personality more than a condition. But i'ts interesting that somthime it's a rupture on US.
@AdamMeakins I agree that those 'true' insidious onset lateral elbow tendinopathies that had no mechanism of injury/overload take a while (~1yr)... but the majority can get better with good activity modification/education and appropriate loading, I think this is done poorly across the board.
