Somehow this needs to be said. Conflicts of interest work the same way in science as they do in journalism, politics, law etc. If you are "debunking" a lab leak #OriginOfCovid, best to declare the COI that you worked with the scientists suspected of starting the pandemic.

@Ayjchan The emails do make "Proximal origins" and the Lancet letter look like a quid pro quo: "Deny that the virus could have been manmade (which I suspect is the case given I funded risky work, and it could sully my reputation for a connection to be drawn) and I’ll keep funding you"
