Thank you Beaux- people need to listen to you, not all the sanctimonious dipsh*t professors like me... this is what its really about and why @BiosafetyNow was founded. Beaux is a resident of Manhattan Kansas dealing with the reality of a BSL-4 lab about to open in their community.

@Bryce_Nickels @BiosafetyNow Thank you. I moved here in 2008 and it was already a done deal. The people who fought it seemed to have entirely disappeared. The atmosphere here is very much “don’t ask, don’t tell” and “whatever helps the economy in the short term is good”.
@Bryce_Nickels @BiosafetyNow I tried to contact some of the early activists several years ago but no one would respond to my queries. At my job I was in regular contact with Chamber of Commerce folk, and they were gleeful about having been invited to tour Plum Island.
@Bryce_Nickels @BiosafetyNow THIS is what the “economic development” cheerleaders were hoping would happen when the government decided to plop a BSL-4 lab in the heart of the US agricultural ecosystem. greatermanhattan.org/scorpius-bioma…
@BeauxReliosis @BiosafetyNow Scorpius? That sounds like the company a villian in a Bond movie would operate.
@Bryce_Nickels @BiosafetyNow Yep, exactly what I’ve said. The thing about Manhattan is that geographically it has little room for growth. So this stuff is expanding eastward to other small communities, rather than the other direction, toward Fort Riley Army base. Scorpius/Scorpion is in Pott Co vs Riley.
