Words can hurt feelings, but gain-of-function (GOF) research on deadly pathogens can cause massive death and despair. Over three years into a pandemic likely caused by such GOF research, and nothing significant has been done to stop another lab-generated pandemic. Join the fight to stop the GOF madness @BiosafetyNow
@Bryce_Nickels You’ve been talking a lot about Marburg recently. Do you just oppose gain of function studies, or do you want to restrict a broader range of research?
@PEHJackson read the statements on these pages (1) biosafetynow.org/biosafety-now/ (2) biosafetynow.org/biosecurity/ (3) biosafetynow.org/biorisk-manage…
@Bryce_Nickels How do you interpret these two statements? Specifically, what does it mean to have universal regulation independent of classification and also new rules about pathogen classification?
@PEHJackson they are intentionally broad statements -- granular details will be worked out later -- Pathogens Project conference hasn't even happened yet
@Bryce_Nickels Aren’t those statements contradictory rather than merely vague? Or do I misunderstand how you’re using “classification” in this context?
