What do all of these games have in common? 1. There's (almost) no translator in the credits 2. They are published by @Team17 Most of these 28 games are available in 10+ languages and in most of them, I couldn't find any mention of the loc team. #TranslatorsInTheCredits
For some of them, a Japanese translator is mentioned on MobyGames, but I didn't see their name in the credits in most cases. Even finding an agency name is rare and the redundancy of the credits btw games + articles online prove Team17 handles the loc. With magic, I guess.
I won't get into details for all of these games and don't really want to point fingers here, even if it's hard when a game has 10 seconds long credits where enemies and NPCs are credited but translators are not. Team17's latest release, though, has a little bit more information.
The Knight Witch (29/11/22), by @SuperMegaTeam The game is available in 11 languages according to Steam, there are only two names in the credits (Spanish and Japanese loc). Locadile (agency) handled 8 languages but none of their translator made it to the credits.
I didn't check all of their games, but if you see Team17's logo when you launch a game, chances are translators are not credited. Team17 has such a great portfolio. Translators would love to have portfolios too. I hope that whoever's to blame here, their process will change.
#gamedev I know some devs have since had projects without Team17 in which translators are credited (Panthea with My Time at Sandrock, loc by the Warlocs). We'll never say this too much, if you're a dev and care about the people working on your games, please ask the agency...
or the publisher you're working with to provide you with the translators' names. For you, it might not mean much, but for translators, it can actually change a lot since some agencies have a policy of not crediting unless asked.
