How much money did we spend in Afghanistan over the last 20 years that we were told we could never afford to spend at home?
@DanRather And how many American companies made huge profits from it?
@DanRather Has the media spoken with any Afghanistan war veterans beside the top brass. You know the boots on the ground soldiers like my two family members? Because if media really wants the real story that’s who they need to be talking to but media wants to sensationalize this
@DanRather @Jmf134Jeff It never ends. How much did England and Germany spend on the Bismarck and the Hood only to send them to the bottom in weeks. Whole national economies lying at the bottom of the North Sea. Did we learn anything? Not even a little!
@DanRather Let's start with the 750 billion added to the defense budget when there wasn't a penny to fix a bridge
@DanRather Too expensive: Infrastructure, criminal justice reform, Medicare/aid, #CancelStudentDebt, clean energy switch, the Post Office, fixing VA, letting people #StayHome & #StopTheSpread of #COVID. Affordable: Defense contracts, war, auditing free/fair elections, TFG’s golf trips. 🤷🏼♀️
@DanRather That $ would never have been spent on domestic issues. If we hadn't spent it on the war in Afghanistan, they would just give the rich and corporations more tax breaks. There is NEVER money to spend on helping the average American in this country--so they say.
@DanRather Too much… According to a Brown University study in 2019, which has looked at war spending in both Afghanistan and Pakistan, the US had spent around $978bn (their estimate also includes money allocated for the 2020 fiscal year). bbc.com/news/world-473…
@DanRather $2 trillion. The American taxpayers have been fleeced, with the added insult of 2400 dead soldiers and thousands more wounded and traumatized. Another Vietnam; nation building doesn’t work. Great respect to our soldiers who served there - you did your job well and with honor.
