BREAKING NEWS: New York becomes the first state to launch mandatory mental health classes in ALL New York schools from K-12. Nine key points being taught include: identifying signs of mental health issues, resources for help, and the negative stigma that surrounds mental illness.
@DaveVescio What are “mental health issues “? Crying, feeling sad, nervous, annoyed or experiencing Psychosis, Depression, Mania? Language matters. Need mental health literacy!
@DaveVescio @danstfler Great idea. I think that every child k-12 should be evaluated at the beginning of every year before school starts. Face to face with a counselor. But this is even better, this doesnt single anyone out and kids learn about it at the same time teachers can identify any problems.
@DaveVescio It’s long overdue. I hope they continue the trend with all schools within all states. Also expand to learn and understand about all disabilities.
@DaveVescio @summernashyd This is interesting. Please provide a link to the resources taught in this school.
@DaveVescio How can people with mental health issue teach people with mental health issues?
@DaveVescio @ChelseaClinton This would be good for teachers too; some of them are bat-shit crazy.
@DaveVescio Hey @StuckonSW @socworkpodcast what do you think?
@DaveVescio Good start, I guess. Need more PROaction, less REaction! How about prevention of mental health issues? i.e. mindfulness techniques? Relaxation methods? Coping skills? Communication?
@DaveVescio @stephhollman @LeeAnneLocken check this out. Change is coming.
