3 hours ago@DevineSean Spoke with an officer the other day who said that there are so many traffic related safety issues that they just cannot solve. He said automated cameras and street design are needed.

4 hours agoIf I post about high number of pedestrian deaths from vehicle collisions, even if I don’t assign blame, certain critics will say “Let’s see cause before proposing solutions!” But if we talk about increasing crime rate, they don’t need to know cause before agreeing to “more cops!”

Sean Devine @DevineSean
4 hours ago@measuringlife I haven’t blamed anyone, have I? I’m just saying we should support actions to remedy pedestrian deaths. I would hope that you agree.

15 hours ago@ShawnMenard1 @EmilieTaman @mspratt Thanks. I was quite nervous (but grateful) that all 4 of you were seeing it.

Sean Devine @DevineSean
16 hours ago@policything @ottawacity I’ve asked staff if there’s a report I can access. Have you seen it? There’s no doubt that this intersection has many factors contributing to danger, including pedestrian behavior. But we observed many factors that are exclusively about driver behavior.

Sean Devine @DevineSean
16 hours ago@policything How do you know that the Merivale/Viewmount accident was the result of pedestrian carelessness? That's now what witness accounts said, nor the father of the victim. And which "activists" seized this? Because @ottawacity staff came and determined it's a dangerous intersection.

17 hours agoFor anyone who's curious, DAISY is a historical political drama about the creation of the infamous "Daisy Girl" television ad, set during the 1964 U.S. Presidential election. It's about how negative advertising changed the course of political discourse. youtu.be/riDypP1KfOU

17 hours agoSomeone reminded me that two years ago yesterday, my last play DAISY opened at @GCTCLive, after having first been shut down due to COVID. This play premiered in Seattle in 2016 and has played across Canada and the US. I sometimes forget about my former life as a playwright! 1/

18 hours ago@policything Of course, I’m looking down my street right now at circumstances that can lead to deadly collisions: speed limit of 40km/hr (with most drivers likely going 45 - 48); lack of street lighting, lack of sidewalk. All of these circumstances increase likelihood of collisions.

Sean Devine @DevineSean
18 hours ago@policything I don’t know the circumstances of this incident, but there are many general options for decreasing risk to pedestrians: 1. More pedestrian crosswalks, to prevent “jaywalking”. 2. Raised intersections. 3. Decreasing speed limits. 4. Discontinuing use of slip lanes.

Sean Devine @DevineSean
23 hours agoIn terms of driver/pedestrian collisions, this is the 5th pedestrian death in Ottawa since October 2. We should all be seeking and supporting actions to remedy this. twitter.com/ctvottawa/stat…
