NEW: Sources tell me that No 10 is now expecting Sue Gray report at some point TONIGHT.
On a day of timetable twists and turns, the final decision on publication is in hands of PM.
But expectation is it will be released in full.
Thread of my threads. Open your motherfucking wallet.
I’ve made it. I support unity.
#Breaking Embattled Ulster Unionist leader Doug Beattie has told the PA news agency he has received the unanimous support of his party MLAs and party officers to continue as leader following a controversy over historical Twitter posts
@caoimhemcneill I’ve suffered mental health issues most of my life and I’ve never used it as an excuse to justify being a sexist or a racist. Just a pathetic excuse.
@rosy_farts Not if they want to shake off the perception that they don’t respect women.
On another note - the line of questioning regarding Doug Beattie’s mental health was nothing short of appalling and was a disgustingly typical demonisation of mental health that we’ve come to expect. Mental health issues are not a barrier to being an elected rep. twitter.com/donnan_s/statu…
It will, however, dent any advantage that the UUP had over Alliance or the Greens in terms of progressive voters.
The UUP won’t ask for Doug Beattie’s resignation for two reasons:
- They have nobody within their benches to take his place.
- Overall this won’t impact much with the electorate. We live in a deeply misogynistic society, and I fear that this will change nothing.
Listening to that interview with Doug Beattie.
Not a single party in the NI Executive has free, safe, legal reproductive access as their policy platform. The UUP have a vocal anti-choice MLA as deputy leader. twitter.com/a4cderry/statu…
Women do not have to smile for the camera beside men we do not like.
Grace Tame is not a public servant, a diplomat, a photo-op model or the property of the government.
She’s an advocate who’s watched Morrison fail, belittle and ignore survivors all year. Why would she smile?
It's suddenly very personal. I hadn't previously seen the date of @BorisJohnson's birthday party that drove a bus through the lockdown rules. Now I see it was the very same day as my brother's funeral for which every rule was obeyed. It's taken an hour to stop shaking with rage.
You know what doesn't help 'the battle to enhance women's rights'?
Anti-choice MLAs who repeatedly vote for a DUP Bill which would force women who need abortions onto boats/planes.
The denial of reproductive healthcare has its roots in misogyny.
It's the same battle. twitter.com/BBCJayneMcC/st…
The DUP have no moral highground here.
They've protected members and supporters who said some abhorrent homophobic, sexist, and racist things.
Hard to stomach any of this - Doug being allowed to use weak excuses on a massive platform, DUP moralising. It's all so gross.

I was a fan of @BeattieDoug Whilst I welcome his apology,I am extremely disappointed & hurt by his past racist, sexism & islamophobia tweets. Misogyny, racism & anti-blackness are too often dismissed as "banter" it's not banter, it's offensive and extremely hurtful. @BBCRadioFoyle
Donegal is beautiful. I have never seen so many stars under one sky.
Has anyone heard back from Rebecca Vardy’s IT specialists
Well, well, well…. The progressive unionist that turns out not be very progressive at all. Who could have predicted this?
I think it’s fair to say the Beattie Bounce is well and truly over.
Who would have thought that a "moderate" supremacist party leader who opposes the visibility of the subordinated indigenous language - and who starts pile-ons by linking those who question him to armed actions they had nothing to do with - would turn out to be one big chauvinist?
