@Crystal88929905 Ha! Oh man, that went right over my head. Sorry. It’s been a long day!
@Crystal88929905 No—this exchange was during the opening act, which is different every night. And she was subsequently disruptive throughout the show, not in funny ways. (This was in a theater, not a comedy club.)
@helaineolen It’s called Yeah, But Not Right Now. It’s a solo by A.J. Holmes but this was during a bit by the guest opener, Marcia Belsky
Comedian in show tonight: “I was a vegetarian for five years”
Loud lady in audience: “YAAAAAAY!!!”
Comedian: “Uh…Was that for being a vegetarian?”
Loud lady: “No! It was for stopping!!”
@sutton408 I do my best to avoid spoilers generally, including vague ones, but sometimes it’s complicated. In this case the playwright has discussed the new ending in the press, and most of the show’s official photos depict the final set, so I think they are probably okay with it
@SamBuggeln So if you’re someone to whom Leviticus is important and you want to keep it in your life, interpret away! That’s part of the beauty of the Jewish tradition.
@SamBuggeln I’ve seen many, many attempts to interpret these passages as something other than what they seem to say but TBH they all strike me as far-fetched—though Lord knows so do many rabbinical interpretations that are considered traditional (e.g., rules about combining milk and meat)
@akakarenwilson Yep, Leviticus 18. Not quite as bad as Leviticus 20—it says men who have gay sex should be cut off, not murdered—but still bad. (Some services sometimes sub in Leviticus 19.)
I do like hearing the Torah on Yom Kippur but I do wish it weren't the part of Leviticus that says gay sex is monstrous. I've got 99 things to atone for but that ain't one.
@AdamSank That’s why you’re a comedy professional
My approach to Yom Kippur this year has been pretty half-fast
He had a hilarious Twitter run a few years back in which he said he’d enjoyed the TV movie about Liberace with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon but was troubled that it portrayed Liberace as gay, since Liberace wasn’t gay
And then he spent hours and hours fielding the responses
Norm Macdonald was probably my favorite living comedian, now among my favorite dead ones, and certainly one of the few who could make me laugh at literally anything he said
@free_coffins It’s short on Jets generally but Anybodys is in the movie (and played by trans actor Ezra Menas, who is in Jagged Little Pill)
@jondmaas Are you suggesting Elder could still win?
And here’s Lillias winning her Tony in 1997. What a great category that year! Four performances I loved. youtu.be/ar-NZ_BxIG8
I’ve heard a lot of arguments against vaccination but “Don’t get vaxxed because Nicki Minaj says she has a cousin in Trinidad who says he has a friend who says his fiancée won’t marry him because a vaccine, he says, made his balls swell up” is the one that finally convinced me
Bonus: If it's a hit, it can do for the Marquis what The Lion King and Wicked do for the Minskoff and the Gershwin: occupy Broadway's ugliest barns with spectacular sets that make the venues moot
@butternut_posh @benandjerrys @Unileverusa @Unilever Factually incorrect! But just to be clear, the Brazil nut and cashew elements were just part of the complex and delicious flavor of the base ice cream itself. (The whole nuts in the mix were roasted almonds.)
It’s been 20 long years since Unilever discontinued the best flavor that Ben & Jerry’s ever made: Wavy Gravy, a caramel and cashew Brazil nut ice cream with a hazelnut fudge swirl and roasted almonds. I will mourn it always.
