Ableism is about more than disability. It is devaluing and ascribing inferiority to those who are different.
@GHMansfield Deep down we are not very different at all. We all want the same in life & especially equal opportunities to raise a family, be in employment & even simple things like access to product, services & our environment. The only thing that is called a difference is how we move.
@GHMansfield How we move & think. But you know, even when you look deeply enough, this difference is sslo common in every single person & it's labeled strength & weaknesses. Some can run faster, have more iq, can see the world in ways that others can't.....
@GHMansfield In the simplest physical comparable form, some need glasses & others don't. Yes it can be seen as a form of a disability & once, this was a big bullying opportunity when glasses were first conceived. Presently however, it's as normal as breathing & no one comments.
@GHMansfield So, why are people with disabilities not afforded this normality? Every product & services should have many access points of consumption. The lived environments equally must have the same too. Why has this not been realised? @AccessForAll7 @CMDIRL @DisabilityFed @IrishWheelchair
@GHMansfield We are an after thought & it's not surprising why it ends up being more expensive. We need a mindset where disability access is the first & last thought in design in every product, service & environmental infestructure like shops, housing roads & more. @DisabilityFed
@GHMansfield We moving in in the right direction. @Buseireann city services having accessible transport available to us all. Yes of course it needs improvements like everything else in this world. There is always room for it. When we look hard enough we can find more examples of enclusion.
@GHMansfield It's given that designing products, services & environments for use by the masses, follow certain rules of ergonomics. In my personal view, this is the ableist view of disability access. Yet, people with disabilities, are not afforded this ergonomic type of design.
@GHMansfield Thank you. My husband is not a large piece of furniture, he is a person. We should be able to access buildings freely and equitably.
@GHMansfield What if it's actually about optimism, hope, and encouragement?
@GHMansfield I see so many disabled people like me do this to other disabled people just like them. I’m new to Twitter. I’ve been following an “advocate” recently. She is the worst representation of disability I’ve ever seen. It’s gross. An opportunity to lead and hurts the whole community
