Today I signed a bill into law that will make period products free in Hawai'i's public schools. It's simple. No child should be forced to miss class because they can't afford period products and need to stay home. Thanks to all who helped make this bill a reality for our kids.
@GovHawaii @PortiaMcGonagal Wow... what a menschy thing to do! Without even knowing, I figured you were a Democrat, cuz Democrats do things like this for people. Bravo to you, sir!
@GovHawaii Did you seriously type period products? Vs hygiene products, holy crap man..
@GovHawaii @mollysmcdonough This is terrific! To all the folks being transphobes about the wording used: the purpose of language it to convey meaning. You understood what the Governor was referring to, so the terminology worked, while being inclusive to boot. #WellDone #EndPeriodPoverty
@GovHawaii “Today I signed a bill into law that will make period products taxpayer-funded in Hawaii’s public schools.” There, fixed it for you. Even if we think this is within the legitimate function of the state, let’s at least be honest with our language.
@GovHawaii So we need a law for something the school nurse should already have in stock and available? 🤦🏻♂️
@GovHawaii Is the lack of period products such a serious issue for kids? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of someone missing school because they couldn’t afford to buy these products. I’m curious, who records this data and where is it available?
@GovHawaii Why do only public school girls get this benefit?
@GovHawaii Is that what they call it out there?
@GovHawaii Most schools have eight periods a day so this is a big help!
@GovHawaii Will you be providing them to boys too?
