Americans rely on Nebraska to feed the world. And Nebraskans rely on water to do so. Today, I announced Nebraska’s intent to construct a canal from the South Platte River.
Colorado is currently planning nearly 300 projects and over $10 billion to ensure no “excess” water leaves their state. Their plans would cause up to 90% reduction in flows coming to NE.
The South Platte River Compact dates back to 1923. It’s a standing agreement that entitles Nebraska to water flowing from the South Platte River. We are exercising our rights under this compact to build a canal that will secure our water rights.
