Calling all Musical Directors! I want to ensure my students have best practice when it comes to rep folders and working with audition pianists - what's the best piece of advice you have/what is it you need? (incl. of course how you want their sheet music to be prepared!)
@GusGowland Any sections you don't want played. As in, omit them completely. I don't want to have to turn 3 pages to find your cut. :) but also, please talk to your accompanist like a human. I can't tell you how many times I've played auditions and people haven't even looked at me.
@GusGowland Oh & also, please avoid casual sexism. My least fav audition, which I remember so clearly.no eye contact at all, for a 45 min dance call & his solo slot. Came to get music at the end and loudly exclaimed. "oh, you're a woman!".... Yes thank you sir. 🤪
@GusGowland - talk to pianist friends if you can about which songs are tricky and if you can mitigate things like page turns at those moments or choose easier rep. - find a bar or two you can offer to sing to start with to clarify tempo
@GusGowland Say hello to us! :-) and know your tempo well so you can pass it on without confusion. Mark cuts clearly and tape music together or put in a folder. There’s always one who staples it in a booklet or has loose pages. 😊
@GusGowland Tape it properly, printed on 100gsm.
