@Mr_J_Abbey @emptybikelane I welcome WC users to use the bike lanes! I know how the road can oftentimes be better than the sidewalk. But that is all the more reason to make protected tracks, as rolling in a painted gutter cannot feel safe.
@Mr_J_Abbey @emptybikelane They should not have done that. The cycling community is currently working on educating cyclists to be more inclusive. The problem is- some people just aren't willing to better themselves. You should see how crotchety the anti-bike lane community is like... just as unpleasant.
@Mr_J_Abbey @emptybikelane The best solution is to narrow roadways and use that space for wider & better sidewalks. So, target your frustration at cars for plundering our valuable space. Narrowing roads and reducing turning radii will also force drivers to travel at the posted speed limits.
@Mr_J_Abbey @emptybikelane I will also add- you started by saying you were upset at cyclists getting "new" bike lanes. The bike lanes we get are converted gutters. They are cracked and damaged from heavy use of vehicles. /1
@Mr_J_Abbey @emptybikelane They are not smooth (as you do not wish to roll on them) and they tend not to be protected (as you said you don't feel safe on them) /2
@Mr_J_Abbey @emptybikelane If we are lucky, we get repurposed (read, recycled) concrete prefabs, or cheap plastic knock-down sticks. /3
