My DGX Station had a pump failure, so I had to use the BMC to gather some data. It is a little creepy talking to a server that is apparently powered off.
@ID_AA_Carmack the servers at Applebee's are always powered off :|
@ID_AA_Carmack Ahhh BMCs. Nothing like a completely independent CPU with access to the system bus and a tap to the primary NIC that ship with a proprietary OS to make you wonder just how many agencies in the world have root to your servers.
@ID_AA_Carmack BMC is a lifesaver and great for automating deployments as well. There's finally a standard REST API called Redfish that works across vendors.
@ID_AA_Carmack ...says while he works at making AGI...
@ID_AA_Carmack If the DGX BMC is like the BMC in the servers I built for Amazon the BMC is completely independent and always running
@ID_AA_Carmack We used fancy rack computers with redundant power, redundant ethernet, BMCs, etc. as the launch site servers at the last place. It was my first time working with them. It is so nice to be able to be able to say "just plug the computer in and we can do the rest from California".
@ID_AA_Carmack Ha ha! I really hate when my DGX dies and i have to use my BMC! Very funny, my good friend John Carmack. I relate to this.
