@JonnyD400 3) Like we’ve agreed, all billionaires are foul, disgusting creatures who have done awful things. But from a football perspective, Joe Lewis and ENIC are not affecting Spurs’s trophy count positively with their money. They aren’t dumping huge amounts out of pocket to buy trophies
@JonnyD400 They are a symptom of the larger problem in English football (a problem easily fixed with the 50-1 from Germany), but they aren’t causing new ones.
@hoile_isiah 2 is valid because I’ve given you a fact (Arsenal & Real are sponsored by a state) and you’ve retorted with your opinion. 3. Going back to the Super League, Spurs tried to take away competition from the rest of the league and it’s as good as dumping money to buy trophies.
@hoile_isiah Look, I think you’ve got good intentions and are a good person but I don’t think defending Spurs and the Super League helps you. If you’re going to be so forceful with this opinion (which is your right), you should really consider your own club’s misdemeanours and not pardon them
@JonnyD400 You’re not understanding the point that I’m making and I’m certainly not being forceful, you’re feeling defensive. The point is not the morality of the various owners overall, because they are all varying levels of scummy. The point is about the validity of trophies …
@JonnyD400 … won by clubs owned by massively wealthy countries dumping in money cover their sins. The clubs who don’t do that, no matter how awful their owners actually are as people, doesn’t change that Spurs and others would have won more trophies if they weren’t purchased by MCFC/CFC
@JonnyD400 Because as we’ve agreed, no one rich enough to own a football club makes moral decisions. So its not like Levy and Lewis were going to say no to the super league because they are bastard billionaires. Thats not the point.
@hoile_isiah What I’m trying to highlight to you about the Super League, is that Spurs and the rest attempted what you’re complaining about: They attempted to harvest success and power unfairly. As a Newcastle fan before the takeover, I saw Spurs and the rest try to steal football away…
@hoile_isiah You’ll see that I have never disagreed with the point about the money advantage but it is undeniable that success is still achievable to non-state owned clubs. Look at Leicester, Liverpool and Lille for recent examples. Spurs we’re very close to the Champions League and the Prem
@hoile_isiah But you didn’t lose out to state owned clubs in those instances. You lost out to Leicester and Liverpool. I accept the point that money gives an advantage (of course it does) but to blame all woes on that and to paint Spurs as innocent victims doesn’t fly.
@hoile_isiah In all honesty, I feel like you should be pointing the finger in more directions. Focusing that justifiable annoyance on just the state clubs is futile. You should be pointing blame at… well… the whole football machine frankly. Your name is “football is dead”…
