To be very clear: the coal industry is dying. Joe Manchin can’t save it any more than Donald Trump could. Worse, West Virginia politicians are propping the rotting husk of that industry up by pushing higher electric bills on widely poor West Virginians. mountainstatespotlight.org/2021/03/11/wes…
And he’s not alone. You know why Manchin thinks “bipartisanship” is real? Because in his state there is a bipartisan determination to artificially prop up coal by any means necessary, even at the expense of capitalism and common sense. Of course socialism for Big Coal is cool 👍🏿
And it’s not like people in West Virginia aren’t noticing the decline. Oh they notice… and folks are suffering… news.climate.columbia.edu/2020/08/07/coa…
@JoyAnnReid This is from 2020. Throughout the rest of the article, it states the improvements and phases they are in! WE ARE WATCHING! 🤣🤣
@JoyAnnReid This description is eerily similar to the decline of the black community in every major city.
@JoyAnnReid Yeah, but convince them that you’re their savior… not likely.
@JoyAnnReid The problem is that he's not looking to help the coal workers, he's looking to help the owners. He's one of them.
