i remember when i started to mask. it was in elementary school too. i was in the library by myself. my safe place. and i remember my inner voice telling me ‘don’t do that’ + ‘don’t say that’. that is when i started suppressing my true self. it starts early.

i feel scared for a moment and think, i am doing this. i am proud i am doing this by myself. i think of how far i’ve come. i know that i am strong. there are plenty of people who might be scared. but i am just living my life. and i can trust i can be ok. i will be ok.
being autistic/adhd without a partner is sometimes scary. sometimes i wake up and think, omg. i am doing this all by myself. juggling this delicate balance that is life. and i do it. but sometimes i just realize the immense gravity of it and i am aware of balancing act.

@mightbeautistic Like everything, you learn from experience. Don't stay and try to hold it together. Just get yourself out of the situation if you can. To everyone else it will always seem "out of nowhere."

We don’t talk enough about what meltdowns can look like in #Autistic adults. Sometimes it’s as simple as letting out everything we have been holding in by masking. Sadly, that can feel hurtful and surprising to others.
