Tidying the garden? Please don't cut back the ivy. Around now in the UK, it will be providing a vital late season pitstop for pollinating insects like bees, butterflies, hoverflies, moths. Then in winter, this native plant will offer berries for the birds.
@LGSpace @BSBIbotany Lots of flowering ivy in my S. Cambridgeshire garden, buzzing with bees, wasps, hoverflies and butterflies. For the second year running I've been privileged to see the rare Ivy Longhorn Hoverfly (Callicera spinolae). So elusive, it was only seen in the UK on 2 occasions in 2021.
@LGSpace It's the ultimate wildlife Plant, i have loads 😁
@LGSpace @Team4Nature Had black birds nesting in our ivy this year for the first time. Was lovely to experience.
@LGSpace I have ivy starting to climb up around a plum tree. There are so berries or flowers on it at this stage. If I leave it to grow, will it affect the tree and reduce its fruit yield?
@LGSpace @UpAgainstArt Such good advice + it looks beautiful too 💚
@LGSpace So many insects benefit directly and are great to photograph @apimondia @britishbee
@LGSpace On our alotment the ivy was buzzing with bees and the red admirals feast too
