🚨🚨 DoorDash delivery drivers are striking on Saturday for tip transparency and higher wages, the first strike in the food delivery giant's history. I spoke to a bunch of striking drivers about why now and what's at stake: vice.com/en/article/pkb…
The strike follows DoorDash's cutting out of a new, popular 3rd party app called Para that allowed Dashers to see their tips before accepting an order. Para had 250K downloads since March. "A lot of workers woke up when Para stopped working"- a driver vice.com/en/article/pkb…
@LaurenKGurley Guys the best strike is to quit. They don’t care if a 80 people log off for a day
@LaurenKGurley @GravelInstitute Is Door Dash taking a % of the Dashers’ tips? Is this illegal?
@LaurenKGurley It will only work if all dashers do this and most ppl I know can’t afford to skip a Saturday.
@LaurenKGurley Wonder how many people will actually participate?
@LaurenKGurley If you can’t afford to tip you can’t afford doordash end of story. Not all dashers are horrible like people make them out to be.
@LaurenKGurley @LOLGOP Never used Doordash, but did use Instacart. Not anymore. Woefully unfair to drivers. Company gets $ fee for processing, and about 20% surcharge on items, while drivers do the work.
@LaurenKGurley Never Cross A Picket Line. ✊ However, we should just abolish the wage & tip system, and Capitalism as a whole. Cure the disease, not find another brand of bandaid. #Solidarity #DoorDash
@LaurenKGurley Tipping on these sites is SO FRISTRATING though. Imagine going to a restaurant and deciding on a tip before you get service. And with these apps, if you don't get your food, the driver brings it cold, forget items, damaged or spilled, is super late - there's little you can do.
