🤔 I concur.
@PoppaSwope Mike Shildt literally said yesterday he was proud of the fact that the work he did putting The Cardinal Way into book form would live beyond him in the organization.
@C70 Shildt refused to say a bad word about the organization. That’s because he’s a class act. I didn’t agree with all of his decisions, but I respected him. Still do. I’m not going to polish this turd man.
@PoppaSwope I respect him as well and wish he was still there. However to say he was the only flame is giving him more value than he deserves.
@C70 I can agree with that. This will be Mo’s third managerial hire. He fired his last two in less than four years. If he strikes out this time, he should get his walking papers.
@PoppaSwope That's fair. Of course, we don't necessarily know that he struck out this time. Shildt was effective at getting the team back to October. As I wrote in my post responding to your post, this feels like more than just a job performance issue.
@C70 Yeah, and you kinda took my words out of context a bit 😉. I get what you were saying though. But that was kind of the point. He didn’t strike out this time. He fired a successful manager. If they don’t win a WS title with the next manager, then Mo should definitely go.
@PoppaSwope Not my intent! I think we are pretty close to the same thought here.
@C70 I think so too. Here’s what it comes down to for me. Shildt got the most out of the team. He needed better help. Mo made moves, but not the right moves to build a contender. So if the next guy doesn’t win you can’t blame the manager.
@PoppaSwope I would go with that, given that the hitting philosophy should be far enough along to be truly evaluated. Plus whatever they do on the pitching side, because I think something like this might be coming there as well.
@C70 @PoppaSwope Or did Shildt get the most out of this team? Maybe it was Jeff Albert who did. We know from Edman players weren’t listening to Albert, then after FO backed Albert, an offensive resurgence began. Maybe the truth was Shildt was a big part of why the 1st half was so bad. 1/
@C70 @PoppaSwope To be clear, I don’t know that answer. We just don’t have enough info to make that judgment either way. But regardless of what one thinks of DeWitt, he’s not an idiot. He’s a CEO. A bottom line guy. Something convinced him Albert added up more than Shildt. 2/
