Students are rallying on the @umontana campus this afternoon against discrimination and calling for professor Rob Smith to resign.
@skylar_rispens @jordyhansen @umontana Hey kiddos, you’re in college now. time to put your big boy and big girl pants on. No crime committed, no injuries, no victims, just a professor voicing radically different views their your own on a blog no one ever read.
@PaulDMorton @skylar_rispens @jordyhansen @umontana They have every right to express their issues, and also to vote with their feet and not take classes. He was entitled to say what he wanted, and they're absolutely entitled to say what they want about it.
@leuchtman @skylar_rispens @jordyhansen @umontana They absolutely do. Just like the Professor has a right to voice his own views on his own personal blog. I don’t agree with him but civil liberties matter. A town hall or debate would be a much more enriching experience for all sides.
@PaulDMorton @skylar_rispens @jordyhansen @umontana Civil liberties matter, and he will get full and fair hearings, with due process, but let's not forget freedom of speech doesn't include freedom from consequences of his speech. And a free market solution would be students voting with their feet.
@leuchtman @skylar_rispens @jordyhansen @umontana His own personal space sharing his personal views. Don’t like it, then ignore it.
@PaulDMorton @skylar_rispens @jordyhansen @umontana There really is no such thing on the internet. There are and always have been consequences for speech. Hell, we threw people in prison for expressing their own personal views about the war during WW I.
