The other day I spent a few hours in the Glebe, a wonderful, walkable neighbourhood in Ottawa. I drove there and paid $8.95 for parking. Some would call this oppressive, I call it a fair price to pay (more would be fine too).

I was walking down Bell Street last night, it felt wonderfully cozy — and a big part of that was because of the narrower design. We should be designing places like this again — places designed around people.
Setback regulations are the city’s minimum distance buildings must be set back from a street. Excessive setbacks force lots to consume more land than needed. They also break the comfortable sense of enclosure on urban streets & unnecessarily space our built environment out.

A good reminder (Metro Vancouver pols talking about the Canada Line before it opened) why you can't assume that just because not many people ride the transit of today that things are destined to stay that way.

@MattPinder1 Artificially inflating the choice of automobiles at the expense of people safely being able to walk, bike, or bus: the natural order of things. "artificially" constraining the choice of an automobile to make mobility equitable: an abhorrent crime against nature. Sigh.
@DerrickSimpson_ Compared to many other cities in North America, including ones with longer systems, the O-Train puts up pretty good ridership numbers. Despite major outages, the service is quite good in terms of speed and frequency. It'll be exciting to see ridership climb with the extensions.
For me it’s the large amount and recent growth of people interested in and dedicated to improving our city. Ottawa’s greatest strength is it’s people.

Thx to Occasional Transport for posting this clip. Providing reliable, consistent, safe and affordable public transit is my goal. The Commission must hold our senior management accountable, establish benchmarks and resources to improve on-time performance.
Everyone at commission gets time to talk to OC, very few take the time to use that to push for change. Big thanks to @RiverWardRiley, saying what needs to be said and keeping them accountable.
