No one I know is against diplomacy with Putin to end his invasion of Ukraine. And no one I know has a workable, realistic strategy for achieving or even starting that process. Shouting "more diplomacy" is not a strategy. It is not "realism."
@McFaul So what is Macrons story then. Is he in love with Putin? or he has some deal with him. Macron says we must give Russia guarantees NATO will not deploy weapons on their doorstep. msn.com/en-za/news/oth…
@McFaul Until Crimea is freed there is no workable diplomacy.
@McFaul I see the comments section is advocating for escalating violence as a motivator for, and even form of, diplomacy. Well... That is slightly (i.e. a lot) alarming. On another note: I look forward to your lecture tomorrow.
@McFaul Your crowd was vehemently against diplomacy in the beginning, creating a self-perpetuating loop of violence. I remember the voices in March saying this would turn into an intentional quagmire, another Afghanistan, a bonanza for the arms industry. & here we are, nearly a year in.
@McFaul Perhaps the beginning of USA diplomacy with Putin is to stop distributing V.Nuland buns in the form of weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces,NATO mercenary soldiers. This is a war from theUS to the last Ukrainian. That's where real diplomacy is buried, waiting in the wings!/1
@McFaul We all know what steps must be taken but continue to delude ourselves that there's some other magical way. x.com/igorsushko/sta…

@McFaul All attempts to deal with Russia as if its a sovereign government will fail because Russia is a terrorist mafia state. Formal designation unlocks our tools specifically designed for this adversary.
@McFaul Still can't believe Macron suggests Putin, the invader, be offered "security guarantees," instead of offering actual security guarantees to Ukraine. x.com/igorsushko/sta…

@McFaul And no one we know could be certain Putin would live up to an outcome of bargaining.
@McFaul I found the answer why experts don't take this thing about "more diplomacy" with one of your previous comments. Because I suddenly realized the subtle difference in our points. I'll write about that tomorrow afternoon.
