In anticipation of Spring Break crowds, MBPD amplified its staffing beginning Feb 27 through Mon morning, Mar 27. Our officers worked extended shifts and adjusted their days off to provide enhanced public safety.

When you visit the beach, make sure to protect yourself and your belongings. 1. Never leave things unattended. 2. Keep all valuables at home or in your hotel. 3. Only bring the necessary items to the beach with you. 4. Keep valuables on your person in a waterproof bag or pouch.

Today, we remember and honor fallen MBPD Officer David C. Bearden. Officer Bearden served with the Miami Beach Police Department for four years before he was caught in a shootout with two auto theft suspects and later passed from his injuries. EOW: March 20, 1928 #NeverForget

City of Miami Beach Issues State of Emergency and Curfew – Curfew to be in effect on Sunday, March 19 from 11:59 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023 with separate emergency measures to be issued from Thursday, March 23 through Sunday, March 27, 2023 –

MBPD has confirmed that this was a targeted and isolated incident. The identities of all parties cannot be released while the investigation is ongoing. 4/4

The subject’s firearm was recovered at 12 Street and Collins Avenue, and the subject was arrested along the 1200 block of Washington Avenue. A second firearm was recovered from the victim. 3/4

The male was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Unit, where he later died. A second victim was injured but treated and released on-site. Officers located the subject along the 100 block of 11 Street, where a foot chase ensued. 2/4

Shooting Investigation: On Sunday, March 19 at 3:29 a.m. Miami Beach Police officers heard gunshots near 11 Street and Ocean Drive and found one male with gunshot wounds along the 1000 block of Ocean Drive. 1/4

The identities of all parties cannot be released while the investigation is ongoing.   Miami Beach Police Department’s staffing remains enhanced and supplemented with assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies. 2/2

UPDATE: Miami Beach Police have one male in custody, who is cooperating fully with the investigation, and were able to recover four firearms from the scene. MBPD has confirmed that this was an isolated incident. 1/2

One of the males died at the hospital, and the other is listed in critical condition. Officers detained one male and recovered three firearms at the scene. Detectives are investigating what led to the shooting incident. 2/2

On Friday at 10:41 p.m., officers heard the sound of gunshots near 7 Street and Ocean Drive and found two males with gunshot wounds at 7 Street. Both males were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Unit. 1/2
