There were 229,000 new cases of coronavirus in the world yesterday. The UK provided 20% of them. 1 in 5 of the new cases in the whole world was on our little island.
To correct myself when I looked at the day's data I forgot that some of the Western hemisphere wouldn't have reported their results yet. Currently, it puts the day's worldwide number at 290,000; not 229,000, which alters the calculation somewhat.
@Natt @JKSteinberger Well we (your greatest enemy, France) have been told that it's because only 10% of the UK population are wearing masks in public. Of course, this could be pure propaganda to ensure we keep wearing masks, even whilst protesting against them.
@Natt @amateuradam Ourworldindata says around 400,000 cases worldwide yesterday? So, UK share still disproportionate but about half the level suggested.
@Natt @JasonHazeley We started vaccinations early. The protection levels are dropping. And because we started earlier and have removed other mitigations we’re going to be affected by this unless boosters are sorted. And vaccines for children.
@Natt Makes me wonder if we're getting a new variant for Christmas.
@Natt I'm old enough to remember when it was all about "flattening the curve" and "keeping R below 2"...and..."protecting the NHS"...I vote we bring back clapping... nostalgia in UK just ain't what it used to be anymore! #JohnsonMustGo
@Natt @DrNeenaJha Shocking - government is focussing on primary care to distract public from their own failings- public falling for it
