Throughout the pandemic, Devi Sridhar has been my main go-to person. This column is absolutely excellent, and if anyone wants a really sober analysis of where we are at, this it.

@OwenJones84 Devi was excellent earlier in the pandemic, but her analysis, whilst making some good points, seems complacent, e.g. ignores long Covid. Infection rates are still very high & we shouldn’t be removing all Plan B protections right away. My own views align more with @chrischirp
@OwenJones84 @devisridhar The NHS is totally overwhelmed by Covid, and was already not coping before Omicron. People are dying or suffering long-term harm from lack of timely treatment. And 1.3 m + are chronically ill with #LongCovid
@OwenJones84 She manages to both support Johnson's removal of masks and back the adoption of N95 masks! Something for everyone...
@OwenJones84 What about the debilitating effect of #LongCovid ? 1.2M people in the UK are currently affected and this is rarely mentioned in public discourse. @longcovidadvoc1 @LC_UK_Action
@OwenJones84 People dealing with the pandemic's consequences up close don't seem to see it as having been de-fanged:

@OwenJones84 I disagree Early on devi was excellent but shes retreated into a rather establishment supporting figure Go to christina pagel for a more scientific approach
@OwenJones84 I stopped reading at "ineradicable disease."
@OwenJones84 Which is fine, if you live in the rich West, and think your role in life is to prop up capitalism so the 1% can continue to commodity human life and sell it back to you (assuming you can afford it).
@OwenJones84 She is my go-to person too but I find her advice here too optimistic for now. Maybe in a few months if the number of infections keep dropping AND if no new variant appears…
@OwenJones84 But something changed in Devi’s approach in the last year, she became more ‘moderate’, pointing out gov failures (so many) far less & promoting morning walks, healthy breakfasts & cakes. I switched to others (Indie Sage members) for more detailed & informed views & info.
