@Cole_August @gtuckerkellogg @Ayjchan Have you read Marion's email? It's arguably pro-censorship and claims sciencecomms must be cleared by the lowest common denominator of the internet fringe. It's injurious to science, which is about free and open inquiry.
@PrometheusCHT @Cole_August @Ayjchan Koopman's email is not "pro-censorship". It's part of a discussion about whether a potential publication should be narrow or broad in scope, and she was (rightly!) concerned about how it might be misinterpreted. It's a very ordinary discussion among authors.
@gtuckerkellogg @Cole_August @Ayjchan Greg, these are far from normal circumstances.
@PrometheusCHT @Cole_August @Ayjchan Agreed, but that just highlights the benign cautionary nature of her email. (unless your argument is that because the early covid situation was so fraught and uncertain they should publish every passing notion that came up in discussion.)
@gtuckerkellogg @Ayjchan We still have no clear process used by the parties to the discussion to explain the FCS acquisition... The arguments are as strong as *other things are possible in nature*, and then become rhetoric with *and if you disagree you're an evolution denier*.
@gtuckerkellogg @Ayjchan People can clearly see the incuriosity and lack of rigour which has plagued this narrative fitting exercise.
@PrometheusCHT @gtuckerkellogg @Ayjchan But this notion that if we don't know something it must mean it was purposely designed is not scientific
@BobasoyNPC @gtuckerkellogg @Ayjchan Nobody serious is claiming that it _must_ be designed. Most are saying the data is consistent with both zoonosis or lab origin. Equiplausible & equiprobable.
@PrometheusCHT @gtuckerkellogg @Ayjchan I also don't think any serious person claims it's designed the problem is there are people who should not be treated seriously who unfortunately are, that think the theory that sars-cov-2 was designed is well supported
@BobasoyNPC @gtuckerkellogg @Ayjchan Letting the lowest common denominator of thinker determine what is up for debate is an even bigger mistake and only serves as confirmation to people who aren't evidence based. What the original team did has come back to bite them, with the Streisand Effect now in full force.
@PrometheusCHT @gtuckerkellogg @Ayjchan The original team isn't being bitten by their "pro censorship" actions. They're being attacked because they didn't publish something they see as not suppoted by the evidence, not because they did it in the name of censorship. Unfortunately they will continue to be attacked as
