The filibuster has no basis in the Constitution, and in recent years, it has become a routine way for the Senate minority to block important progress on issues supported by the majority of voters. But we can’t allow it to be used to block efforts to protect our democracy.
@BarackObama The filibuster was the insulator of Jim Crow. It is an accident of legislative history. It's not part of the Constitution in any way. But it has been used again and again to stymie civil rights progress. --Ben Jealous
