NEWS: Censorship continues in Florida as "Ruby Bridges," a movie based on the true story of courageous 6-year-old Ruby Bridges who helped integrate segregated schools in 1960 New Orleans, has been removed from a Florida school after one parent complained it might teach white children to hate black children. This comes right on the heels of complaints that Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, is trying to eliminate AP African American studies from the state's schools, a charge he denies. Yet, through his crusade against "wokeness," he has weaponized ill-informed parents against teaching a vital part of American history that must not be subject to censorship. The subject of the movie, Ruby Bridges, is only 68 years old today -- a reminder that the dark past DeSantis is trying to obscure is not that far behind us.
@ReallyAmerican1 Why are 2nd graders watching movies instead of learning to read , write , and do arithmetic . Seems like 2nd grade is too soon for that kind of movie.
@ReallyAmerican1 Florida is pulling a Japan, it's no use trying to erase the nation's terrible past, the world will not forget, nor will America, nor will 47 African Americans.
@ReallyAmerican1 @MayoIsSpicyy Whether we like it or not, History is the truth and we must learn from it to avoid repeating it. It can show us how far we have come and how far we have yet to go. Learning of WWII does not make a rational person hate either German or Japanese people, two of our closest allies.
@ReallyAmerican1 hmmmmmm generally movies are only shown when subs teach classes. I question your motives.
@ReallyAmerican1 It was temporarily removed at one elementary school in Florida pending review. It hasn't been banned in the district, country, or state. Also, the parent complained that it contained racial slurs.
@ReallyAmerican1 @born_legend21 The alternative is what then ….. don’t teach real history but a more sensitive outlook that makes white people (the aggressors) feel better ???? TUH
Everyone is giving @GovRonDeSantis way to much credit. He has zero political or moral stances. He and Trump both will say, be , do, command ANYTHING to be in power. Fascism is not political it’s a power hungry, wealth consolidating choice. Minorities are just an obvious obstacle and easy target. Those targets get the hatful, “victimized” privileged folk to rally around them. Ron & Trump believe in nothing that’s why their followers can stick any masterbative label on them to makes their sick racist fever dreams come true.
@ReallyAmerican1 Our children don't need a movie to teach them to hate (not when their elders will gladly do it for them).
