@spankytano @ReillySpicer @gulfstream_gary Agree Medina complied with 24-hour rule. KHRC warning against ointments containing steroids, listed with race-day "prohibited substances" at top of page 2 in linked doc, implies that steroid variant from cream wasn't allowed in post-race samples? khrc.ky.gov/Documents/8-02…
@spankytano @ReillySpicer @gulfstream_gary Seems likely that vets didn't realize how much corticosteroid from cream had entered Medina's bloodstream, during extended use. Hope this sad situation inspires scientific studies and clarified, appropriate guidelines re: Otomax use for racehorses (and equines in general).
@HorseyGort @ReillySpicer @gulfstream_gary The whole point is to eliminate meds that will affect the horses performance or safety Vets probably agree that just because steroid cream might test at a very small level, makes no difference to safety, performance. No reason to worry about it.
@spankytano @HorseyGort @gulfstream_gary Yes, if that is where the betamethasone came from, I don't think there is solid evidence...at same time Otomax is a Class C drug which is not performance enhancing if it is where beta... came from.
@ReillySpicer @HorseyGort @gulfstream_gary The test from only accredited lab to do this test came back with results that MS sample contained beta valerate from cream, had no Beta Vet from liquid variant. KHRC agreed to this test if BBpaid for it.There is solid proof it was from beta valerate.
@spankytano @HorseyGort @gulfstream_gary Cynthia enjoying this conversation, home with Shingles Not challenging MS test from "accredited lab." Just not all accredited labs equal. See Farmer vs. United States Equestrian Federation humorous to me..Split samples coming back much higher than original positives for GABA.
@ReillySpicer @spankytano @gulfstream_gary Shingles, noooo! Hope you're feeling better soon, Ann. 🐎 Cynthia, I'm persistent to a fault when trying to define questions (some useful, some ultimately not). Thank you again for your observations.
@HorseyGort @ReillySpicer @gulfstream_gary You might want to see where Joe Sharp just had his sanctions vacated on appeal by KHRC because the med was not specifically listed at the time. Clark Brewster, his lawyer, is also BB lawyer
@spankytano @ReillySpicer @gulfstream_gary KHRC declassified levamisole 4 years before Sharp accused of violation. Awful misstep by regulators. Baffert case different because KHRC 2020 warning re: race-day use of ointments containing steroids was in effect during May 2021 Derby? Agree that guideline needs clarification.
@HorseyGort @ReillySpicer @gulfstream_gary You must really hate Baffert to want MS to be DQd over an ointment containing a half strength variant of a steroid.(they would have to give a WD time for use of valerate since they gave one for Beta Vet)With no effect on performance or safety? You are nuts.
@spankytano @HorseyGort @gulfstream_gary Who are you calling nuts? I do not want the Derby taken away from Medina Spirit. This discussion has focused on the drug rules and lack thereof, as well as the non performance enhancement effects of Otomax.
