To ensure everyone has the opportunity to vote, Election Day must be a federal holiday.
@RepValDemings That bill should easily pass however certain segments of society doesn’t want everyone to vote.
@RepValDemings Elections here in New Zealand are over a two week period. Voting booths virtually on every corner and open on weekends. Never had to queue. There is also a vote by mail option.
@RepValDemings In Canada, your employer must give you up to 3 hours paid time to vote. Of course the average time it takes to vote is 45 minutes or less.
@RepValDemings Vote by mail. That’s the only way. A national holiday would just make people stand on line longer on their day off. Stop.
@RepValDemings Why. We have early voting and mail in ballots that provide everyone a opportunity to vote
@RepValDemings @tedlieu It’s a given that voting day is a holiday in South Korea and not everyone here is even convinced we even have democracy yet.
@RepValDemings You will get many Republicans on board with that, because it is sensible. Mail in ballots should be the extreme exception, and voter ID should be mandatory. If you want integrity in our elections, these are a must.
@RepValDemings @gtconway3d Voting on Sundays like “all” other countries in the world would be a good start, so hourly employees do not need to beg their company for time or just take on their PTO….
