The most traumatic and emotional moment of my life was on June 14 1986. My wife Jeramie gave birth to our second amazing child. And, as these pictures show, we slowly realized there was a problem with our son.
The doctors rushed out of the room and room him and we knew something was wrong. They brought him back for Jeramie and me to hold. They were scared. They thought he would die.
I held him and promised him that I would do everything I could take save him. That I would love him no matter what.
We had agreed to name him “peter” and then after what felt like hundreds of hours they came in and told us he had “peters anomaly.” Jer and I looked at each other and immediately said “change his name to Ben.”
He was the first person born in California with peters anomaly. We spent months in hospitals with him and years raising money for charities Jeramie led for less fortunate kids than Ben.
I am incredibly proud of all my children. bendreyfuss.substack.com/p/a-sunday-sto…
@RichardDreyfuss Firstly, that was beautifully written. An interesting read, and thanks for sharing.
@RichardDreyfuss Thanks for sharing. Your son is a great writer. You have many reasons to be proud. I'm a mom, I'm very familiar with being proud. :)
@RichardDreyfuss This story sounds so much like my mother’s. A knife put her eye out at age four, and she had to walk around with her dead eye until age 21. The teasing and harassment was horrible. I relate. God bless.
@RichardDreyfuss Pretty sure they reckon you’re ok too 😉❤️
@RichardDreyfuss Especially when he hunts ppl for laughs?
@RichardDreyfuss @MelamedBlanche it good to be proud of them dear
@RichardDreyfuss An incredibly beautiful newborn, an incredibly beautiful child, and an incredibly beautiful young man. God bless!!
