There is a simple explanation for the performance of the UK on this chart. It is the deliberate policy of UK energy companies who require that the poorest in our communities pay the highest tariffs via pay-as-you go meters. They are systemically abusing the weakest in our society
@RichardJMurphy This has always perplexed me. You have a hard time paying so you pay more! Years ago companies also used to up the interest % for a similar reason. Apparently to reduce risk. 🤪
@RichardJMurphy Interesting - what's the source of the graphic?
@RichardJMurphy @ChristineJameis They have a monopoly as no they have stopped taking on new customers. So we are hostages to the increase in price with no one to turn to. @ofgem you are asleep at the wheel. Force these companies to offer their lowest tariff to new customers.
@RichardJMurphy How do other countries handle energy supply to people on low incomes?
@RichardJMurphy @NDS691 my house came with prepayment i top up 1 time a year and they still won't give me non pre payment :( and i disabled
@RichardJMurphy What I don’t understand is why you focus peoples anger on the domestic energy suppliers, many of which are in fact struggling, rather than the government who’ve driven a deregulated, free market system into public utilities. It’s as if you want to excuse the Tories?
@RichardJMurphy Is it the energy companies? or OFGEM? OFGEM default maximum tariffs for prepayment meters are higher: DD £241 (nil KWh) / £1908 ( average usage) prepayment £294 / £1951
@RichardJMurphy Dont forget the 6000 boilers a day that get installed. We are just a very wasteful country with energy
@RichardJMurphy @JuneSim63 Says it all about how bad things have become in this country.
