What is your relationship with work, & how has it changed during the pandemic? I'm excited to talk with @sarahljaffe at 9am about her book “Work Won’t Love You Back: How Devotion to Our Jobs Keeps Us Exploited, Exhausted and Alone” Comment using #DetroitToday & tune in on @wdet
@sarahljaffe @wdet "I feel like Detroit is the perfect place to be talking about this," says @sarahljaffe, citing deindustrialization and the expectation that there's now an expectation of enjoying our jobs #DetroitToday
@SHDetroit @sarahljaffe @wdet Unless hourly wages increase proportionate to the decrease of worked hours, only salaried workers will be able to take advantage of a shorted workday or workweek. I’m not against a shorter work week, but that change will further reveal the gap between classes. #DetroitToday
@SHDetroit @sarahljaffe @wdet Okay “perform loving” is completely different from “actual loving.” That helped. I know literally no person who enjoys their job. They need health insurance and money for rent. It’s a pretty small group who actively “likes” their job from what I see.
