@LoveInner I like Keilberth a LOT. Some favorites include these recordings. His Vienna Mahler Eighth broadcast (with a young Wunderlich) is very special too.
@LoveInner the '55 Ring Cycle is excellent, and Testament has done an excellent job with the remastering. recommended. There's also a very good Freischütz.
@LoveInner Second only to Furtwangler amongst the great German conductors. Here are a few of his best: The Ring, Arabella and La Clemenza di Tito. All excellent but the Strauss peerless.
@LoveInner Keilberth’s orchestral legacy is underrated. This set has most of it. I’ve never heard better readings of Reger’s Hiller and Mozart Variations than here, and his Bruckner 6 has been my favourite since the early days of CD. His Beethoven and Brahms are unaffected and satisfying.
@LoveInner This is a favourite of mine, mainly for the singers, I admit, but the conductor supports them well.

@LoveInner As far as recordings go, 1955 was a miracle year for Keilberth. Along with his superb Ring from that year is, hands downs, my favourite Flying Dutchman. Exhilarating!

Conductor Joseph Keilberth was born on 19 April 1908. He is not a conductor I’m overly familiar with, but I do see his name pop up for Wagner recommendations quite a bit! Are there any Keilberth fans out there? What are your favourite Keilberth recordings?
