Of the $233 billion in customs duties raised from trade war tariffs, $144 billion was collected under Biden's watch. It appears that both Trump and Biden favor higher taxes on Americans through the trade war tariffs, and the increased economic distortions that follow.

It’s remarkable how pervasive the (incorrect) belief is that tax policy affects the economy by effectively handing individuals and businesses bags of cash - as if the only thing that matters is average rates rather than marginal rates.

Unilateral tariffs aren't an effective approach. First because other countries are importing the stuff the U.S. stopped buying from China, and second, because the U.S. is importing more from those other countries thus indirectly still relying on imports from China.
