@yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ Most healthcare providers require informed consent from parents for minors.
@TheDrDrama @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ What about adolescents with a history of mental illness who are not even asked basic questions like “have you ever had sex?” Just bc someone is of age does not mean they fully understand what consent means. Most surgeons assume their adult patients have been vetted. Many haven’t.
@gigilarue4 @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ Any adolescent seeking hormone therapy is asked basic questions and more. They have to complete a thorough evaluation with a therapist who then provides that evaluation to the physician.
@TheDrDrama @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ This should be true, but in the case of a friend of mine (whose 22 year old is getting a double mastectomy despite active comorbidities/long history of mental health issues) the vetting process missed basic red flags bc she’s an “adult”. Mental illness isn’t solved with surgery.
@TheDrDrama @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ And in the hormone therapy is received in most states with little to no mental health evaluation at your local planned parenthood in about 45 minutes. Read about it. abigailshrier.substack.com/p/inside-plann…
@gigilarue4 @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ I don’t need to read about it, with all due respect, I’m an expert in the field 🙏🏻 That’s why I said “most” physicians.
@TheDrDrama @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ So, you’ve learned everything already? As an “expert”, don’t you owe it to your patients to be fully informed? This is an evolving issue. The same is true of “most” surgeons. Their patients are being vetted by people who are following a fixed narrative. That’s not good medicine.
@gigilarue4 @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ That’s not accurate, they are getting letters from healthcare providers who follow the WPATH evaluative guidelines.
@TheDrDrama @gigilarue4 @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ whoever made those guidelines are making money on vulnerable young people and their families. Nepotism anyone.
