@yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ Most healthcare providers require informed consent from parents for minors.
@TheDrDrama @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ What about adolescents with a history of mental illness who are not even asked basic questions like “have you ever had sex?” Just bc someone is of age does not mean they fully understand what consent means. Most surgeons assume their adult patients have been vetted. Many haven’t.
@gigilarue4 @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ Any adolescent seeking hormone therapy is asked basic questions and more. They have to complete a thorough evaluation with a therapist who then provides that evaluation to the physician.
@TheDrDrama @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ This should be true, but in the case of a friend of mine (whose 22 year old is getting a double mastectomy despite active comorbidities/long history of mental health issues) the vetting process missed basic red flags bc she’s an “adult”. Mental illness isn’t solved with surgery.
@gigilarue4 @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ Sorry your friend had a bad experience. Just because it bears repeating: Being trans is not a mental illness.
@TheDrDrama @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ But her kid isn’t trans, just very mentally ill. The hospitals don’t differentiate. This is why you have detransitioners. 70% of the patients in this study realized (after the fact) that their gender dysphoria was related to other issues. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
@gigilarue4 @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ The detransition narrative is a red herring, such a tiny minority that does not prove that people aren’t trans.
@TheDrDrama @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ Ask one of the many thousands of detransitioners if they are a red herring. @post_trans @detransitioners @DetransAdv @DetransCanada @FtMdetransed @DeTransAust Following a narrative is lazy medicine.
@gigilarue4 @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ @post_trans @detransitioners @DetransAdv @DetransCanada @FtMdetransed @DeTransAust Like I said, we aren’t following a narrative, we are following our professional ethics, science, training & experience and the guidelines set out by WPATH. Of course no person is a red herring but the anti-trans argument is a red herring.
@gigilarue4 @yoghurt35189292 @vicparsons_ @post_trans @detransitioners @DetransAdv @DetransCanada @FtMdetransed @DeTransAust This is a biased report from a biased source. WPATH is based on science and best practices. What is your ultimate point?
