Melvin Ingram is a perfect example of why you can't properly assess the game as a 'box score checker.' Ingram had just 1 sack and 2 TFL in 6 games for #Steelers last year, and fans assumed he wasn't good anymore. Now he's the AFC defensive player of the month for the Dolphins.
@TommyJaggi Oh, people knew Ingram was good, including himself. Which is why he wasn’t happy about his playing time.
@JoeSteelerFan Which I completely get. There was honestly a crowd who thought Tuszka was better because of his box score production, which was absurd.
@TommyJaggi @JoeSteelerFan I was one who felt Tuszka wasn't some big step down form Ingram. Ingram wasn't that impactful in Pittsburgh when he played. It wasn't like they sat him just because - he wasn't making plays.
@PittsburghSport @JoeSteelerFan Man, I've got to say I strongly disagree with this. 18 pressures in 6 games as a part-time player. Graded out well, and the film backed that up. Just narrowly missing out on sacks, but caused an impact.
@TommyJaggi @JoeSteelerFan Maybe. I don't remember seeing him make a major impact - he was always a step late to making a play. Even his two big fumble recoveries that helped get him this months honors were plays other guys made - he was out of the play and just picked up fumbles other guys caused.
@TommyJaggi @PittsburghSport Ingram made the case for more playing time for sure. He just wasn’t getting it so he said, “Get me out of here!”
