Genuine question: WHY is ANYONE against universal healthcare? Like, what arguments do they try to use against it? Cause I can't comprehend why any reasonable person would be against it.
I did not expect this to blow up like it did 🤣
@TrashPandaGirl My grandmother is 92 and she has been taught that Medicare for all will mean she doesn’t get to keep her insurance and healthcare. She thinks they will take everything away from her to give it to other people, because that’s what she was told happens with Universal anything
@TrashPandaGirl It's always boils down to.. "I am rich, why should I wait in line behind peasants for help in the universal system". To which I usually tell them this is how our system works, and if they are that well off they can look into medical tourism and get the care they want elsewhere.
@TrashPandaGirl Because it sucks. Takes forever to get appointments, the best doctors go to countries where there isn't universal healthcare because it is more lucrative. Nothing is ever going to be perfect but way too many unrealistic people expect perfection and free everything for everyone
@TrashPandaGirl "We need more money for the War Budget and Ukraine." - the MIC "We'll give you a million dollars to vote against this bill." - The insurance lobby. @DNC + @GOP = Corruption
@TrashPandaGirl Some people like to throw away the ladder after they have climbed up. The steps are the welfare schemes.
@TrashPandaGirl One of the less-cited reasons is it would lead to massive layoffs in corporate HR departments. Negotiating and administering employee healthcare plans is a substantial part of the work they do.
@TrashPandaGirl Because they are bad people. It’s easy.
Emotionally, my friend was worrying about running his business when his daughter was really sick when she was little (she’s grown now) and remembering how worried he was when she was sick and how he couldn’t afford to take her to a doctor, he’s furious at the notion that anyone could get free medical care now.
@TrashPandaGirl The arguments THEY commonly use? - Can't trust government to NOT screw it up - Massive layoffs/unemployed as a result - Paid for via their taxes which MAY increase - Don't want to pay for those making "bad decisions" - Don't want to pay for anyone "undeserving" (status/class/etc)
