If Russia says USA promised NATO not to expand (which is a lid), could we talk about the time when Russian promised Ukraine not to invade it in exchange for Ukraine giving up nuclear weapons?
@_JakubJanda NATO never promised not to expand, there’s no agreement. But Russia severely violated the Budapest Agreement.
@_JakubJanda Putin easily forgets that Russian President Yeltsin stated in 1993 that Poland joining NATO "is not contrary with the interests of other countries, Russia included." His FOMIN Kozyrev said "It's up to Poland to decide and up to NATO to decide." See: upi.com/Archives/1993/…
@_JakubJanda You dont need to hear from Russia about US, French, German, and British promises of not moving NATO one inch further east. You can read the ecommuniques made to Gorby in the NS Archives. Promises came from Bush I, Thatcher, Mitterand, Kohl, Gates and SoS Baker.
@_JakubJanda Shouldn't have promised Sevastopol becoming a US Navy base
@_JakubJanda I feel like people need to be reminded of this every day.

@_JakubJanda Budapest Memorandum is about security assurances for Ukraine. A signed pact. Russia has not been honorable.
@_JakubJanda Actually it was the US which broke the Budapest Memorandum when they imposed sanctions on Belarus in 2006.
@_JakubJanda He’ll just say that Yeltsin was drunk when he signed it.
