when it comes to minerality... for me : assyrtiko, not from Santorini, usually from northern 🇬🇷 is the boldest expression i tasted. sancerre comes next, i guess.

all those are just labels, we know that wine is wine...

so to conclude : things at home look quite awful. greek wine is as exactly as they said: insane vfm for such great wines. and athens is a great city... flying back early morning but at least with a few more 🍾 to comfort us...

and i realized i missed tweeting about the first one: a traditional method creamy sparkler from xinomavro (90%) and a bit of assyrtiko. champagne? if tasted blind then that's what i would guess. so great!

fourth up the single vineyard xinomavro. did not get the food pairing it deserves. baby, kids and crazy heatwave are decent excuses. less than 20€? ✔️ aged for a bit (2018)? ✔️ quite amazing? ✔️ great acidity, gripping but tingling tannins. 🍒 and chewing tobacco. so 💥

third up is a xinomavro rose. very complex, a bit tannic. 🍓and cranberries topped with lemon peel and a spritz of olive brine. another big winner. now left with the 2018 red xinomavro which will wait for a decent dish next to it, hopefully. today will be greek 🍺 day...

second up is this creamy full bodied oaked assyrtiko from northern greece. very mineral, adeed nuts variety and lemon. peel. big wine with big acidity. crazy vfm.

a night in pireus and islanding tommorow. went to a wine shop and took my guesses. a sparkler, white, rose and the red single vinyard xinomavro. and pilsner for tonight.. 70€ it's gonna be intresting... athens wine recommendations for the journey back home are welcomed...

cotes de rhone is satisfaction guaranteed, for any price point. blind, the cherry made it clear that this is the french and not the Portuguese.

they say the coffee has a taste profile of: tropical fruits, cranberries and 🍌. skipping fruit salad today. and i wonder: was it carbonic?

unbelievably elegant and balanced gruner. the price is a joke. quite a cognitive dissonance, lets have the left overs with breakfast (vacation time after all).

an unusual oaked sa blend (Semillon blanc, roussanne, chardonnay, chenin blanc and clairette blanche). more flowers and spice with subtle fruit. 🙈 i was guessing rhone or maybe spain. wines are rather good round here but this is quite an exceptional wine.

opened entry level chenin on friday. nice and basic. half a bottle was left in the fridge. came back to it yesterday (72 hours later). green apple became baked green apple. with some spices and nuttiness. so nice! saving a bottle or 2 for 2-3 years for sure...

great fresh albarino. surprising aged aligote. classic oaked whitey. complex pinotage sparkler. white grappa style distilled , Arabic coffee with cardamom and pistachio crunch for dessert. good company made it all much better.

slowly becoming too snobby for nz style sauvignon blanc.
