The House Ways and Means Committee has obtained Trump's tax returns after a nearly four-year saga. No word yet on whether it will vote to publish them in the Congressional Record before GOP takes over in January. nytimes.com/2022/11/30/us/…
@charlie_savage I think that would be illegal. Under 26 USC 6303 they have to be handled like a classified document.
@TimInHonolulu Under § 6103(f)(4)(A) the Ways and Means Committee can vote (in executive session) to submit the returns to the full House, publishing them in the Congressional Record, as discussed in Judge McFadden’s opinion last year. Rare but not unprecedented for a committee to do so.
@charlie_savage Are you referring to this clause? ". . .may be submitted by the committee to the Senate or the House of Representatives, or to both." It doesn't provide for public release. He'll just sue for an injunction and jam them up.
@TimInHonolulu See Judge McFadden's discussion of this in his reluctant ruling. Also, not sure how the judicial branch could enjoin the legislative branch from taking an official action.
