Q5 What role does mentorship & professional development programs play in attracting & retaining top talent in the AV industry? What are your thoughts on Mentorship vs Apprenticeship? Are they different? Is retaining talent a bigger issue than finding new talent? #AVintheAm
@chris_neto Retention is difficult because the “grass is always greener”. Professional development programs should be made available to everyone if they want to pursue it, and that helps retention. #AVinTheAM
@chris_neto Mentorship is huge in talent retention & recruitment. It shows the employee that you value them & their growth. Helping them feel part of something bigger is the key to helping them feel AV as a career and not just a job. #AVinTheAM
@chris_neto Retaining and attracting talent all just comes down to offering what ppl are looking for from their career. Some will be looking for $$, but some will want the opportunity for growth as well. Those are the future leaders who will benefit greatly from mentorship. #AVInTheAM
@chris_neto New to a company? Younger employee? Want to expedite your abilities? Find a knowledgeable & effective colleague and ask them to mentor you! #avintheam
@chris_neto Apprenticeship = skill, Mentorship = competency. Both are required for people to be successful as they evolve into people managers and managers of people managers. Negative attributes amplify exponentially as one's influence grows. #AVintheAM #leadership #personaldevelopment
@chris_neto I see mentorship more on the person looking to learn and grow from another people. I see apprenticeship where you are ‘assigned’ to someone to learn skills from. Both are important but both are different actions and different mindset. #AVintheAM 1/x
@chris_neto 100% different, both important. Mentorship is guidance, coaching, feedback. Apprenticeship is hard skill focused typ. Build a team of mentors and coaches, then you have a super power for your teams ability to grow, scale and have a damn good time along the way. #AVintheAM
@chris_neto It's huge for those that reach out for mentors. If they don't reach out, or embrace the relationship, they won't get anything out of it. #AVinTheAM
@chris_neto We cannot "either or" recruitment and retention. That has to be a symbiotic effort. There is no point brining talent in without a plan to retain, develop, and promote. There is no point eternally retaining a stagnant workforce, either. #AVintheAM
