**BONUS** Q6 How can companies in our industry balance the need for technical expertise with soft skills and leadership development in their talent management strategies? #AVinTheAm #AVtweeps
@chris_neto BONUS!!!! WOOT WOOT! It all depends upon the role you're recruiting for. Some require soft skills more than others. Both sides can be developed. Hire the right person with the right skills & right fit for the company culture, & then develop the weaker areas later. #AVinTheAM
@chris_neto I have found soft skills to be a bigger factor in limiting someone's career growth than technical skills. There are only so many positions that you can isolate from interacting with everyone. #AVIntheAM
@chris_neto Learning anything takes time. Whether it's technical skills/ soft skills/ or leadership. No one is going to just have all of them overnight. Co's have to provide time AND opportunity for development of new skills, whichever they may be, for well rounded employees. #AVInTheAM
@chris_neto First, understand the need for both. And same goes for employees & candidates. It’s good to be technical, but great to be tech. & have soft skills. Soft skills require diff interview questions to identify. 🤔 #avintheam
@chris_neto As with most, providing a platform to constantly learn and engage each other is key; including offering educational tools to help support people who simply may really “not know better.” Ignorance is not bliss. #AVinTheAM
@chris_neto People skills are harder to teach than tech skills. Great tech skills or great soft skills will take you done a dead-end path that only goes so far. Both will open multiple never ending paths but the person needs to choose their path not the company #AVintheAM
@chris_neto Outside of technical training. Build leadership programs. Lean on external experts, books, programs. We tend to focus on the hard skills and the soft skills gap stunt growth. Look around, it’s not just our industry that falls into this void. #AVintheAM
@chris_neto Companies can train for the skills, but they can't train the personality. If the personality isn't a good fit for the company, they won't last very long. #AVinTheAM
@chris_neto Provide professional development for anyone leading teams, whether by formal training or they more informal mentoring and outside work hours reading. Also understand managing a team is not always the path folks want - some want to be role players not all want to lead #AVintheAM
