Sometimes it's worth emphasising that @IndependentSage are very much in the global scientific mainstream on covid policy. The UK approach is an outlier - including btw on not vaccinating 5 to 11 yr olds while also doing little to stop spread in schools. liveapp.inews.co.uk/2022/01/23/who…
@chrischirp @IndependentSage I find it incredible that the vaccination rollout is the ONE thing this government has (somewhat) in its favour and keeps harping on about, and yet 5–11 are being totally ignored (which means, by extension, their parents and families are also being put at constant risk).
@chrischirp @IndependentSage #COVID19 in the UK has peaked but the drop also has leveled off recently, especially in the southern parts of England where cases have begun to rise again. London has leveled off. All this before mitigations officially cease on Jan 26.
@chrischirp @IndependentSage And the impact is wide… The UK position on 5-11 vaxx has been given to me as a reason for American and French parents to refuse to vaccinate their child. It fuels the hesitancy beyond the UK
@chrischirp @IndependentSage It’s ironic the Tories claim we are one of the most open societies. I don’t feel like that nor do most of my friends & the vulnerable are scared to go out. If you don’t give a damn for others then you have your freedom. The rest of us don’t count and must catch it or stay home.
@chrischirp @IndependentSage Absolutely. And if UK govt had listened to your advice and global best practice this country would be in a far better place.
@chrischirp @IndependentSage We do need good scientists to keep speaking up to protect our children and vulnerable. We already see rogue scientists who had an early platform going against WHO policy and supporting the Govt.
@chrischirp @IndependentSage 1) No 2 countries Covid policy is the same. 2) As far as I can see the last major 'policy' statement from IndySage was 'Step 2' in 15th December, something very few countries advocated. Is this still the policy of Independent Sage BTW? 3) Your previous policy statement was plan B
@chrischirp @IndependentSage I just don’t understand why we aren’t being given the choice to vaccinate our 5-11yr olds.
@chrischirp @IndependentSage Very odd claim. You advocated a ban on indoor mixing due to Omicron, very few countries went that far. Notable many of countries iSAGE have previously held up as examples are now in a worse situation than UK.
