Covid-19 is a serious disease. But progress in science has largely de-fanged it. My take on where we are now in rich countries: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Although at the forefront of my mind are those in elderly/vulnerable/shielding groups where Covid-19 still presents a real health threat. Real questions on how we continue to look after & value all members of society.
@devisridhar I like the fact that you have advocated to keep N95 masks and other mitigations, but until the puzzle of #longCOVID is solved, we still have a very dangerous problem with the possibility of a tsunami sized final wave of chronic disease. The canines are gone, molars remain.
@devisridhar Long covid? Kids? I want to be in your camp, but we don't have good answers to the above just yet. Trends are less worse than a month ago, which is encouraging. But the potential for rebound hospitalisations worries me - means longer waiting lists, which are a very bad thing.
@devisridhar "We need to encourage people to wear medical-grade masks such as N95s in crowded and indoor settings." I agree, but after today's announcement I'm concerned that many won't.
@devisridhar We don't care what GB does we're keeping our masks on,
@devisridhar Sorry Devi, but no. How can you claim it is reasonable to remove all restrictions now, at the top of an infection peak, rather than wait 'til near the bottom? The danger is the current situation becomes the norm. 300 deaths a day is not #COVID defanged. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
@devisridhar These two statements seem inconsistent, what am I missing? “We need to encourage people to wear medical-grade masks … in crowded and indoor settings.” “…restrictions including masking requirements will be removed from next week, ... I think this is largely reasonable”
@devisridhar don't get the feeling politicians or society is interested any longer those groups. It's a free for all. I'm imaging that the hope is that vaccination, anti virals etc will be good enough. But is that right? We don't know how long the boosters will last. Will we need an Omicron
